The Rochefort American High School Students commuted from different cities and towns in France. Here are some photographs of Blaye and Bussac, France, where there was a US Army Base. Many of us lived there.  Lance Burris, President of the RAHS Association contributed many of these photographs.

We welcome your contribution to this collection of photos which are treasured by our RAHS alumni. Please send them to mjean1@gmail.com and we will post them. MJ

Bussac-Forêt

Bussac Forêt, Charente Maritime France - Previously, the Bussac US Army Depot till mid 60's. I started to work at Bussac, at the age of 16/17 years old. I do have good memories there. In Montlieu la Garde, only few miles away from Bussac Forêt, 9 US Pilots on bord of their flying bomber and coming back from a bombing mission in december 1943, en route to Cognac city, were shooten down by a German plane, over a forest one mile away from Montlieu la Garde. A monument was made and put up on the spot of the crash. Since then and once a year a traditional ceremony is held in memories of the fallen US Pilots.

Bussac Today

Once upon a time - U.S. Army Depot Bussac-Foêt "Charente Maritime - 17. In the sixties, after a forced departure of all U.S. Troops from France by a "non-thankful" government at that time, today on the ex U.S. Base Bussac, there are only few building left in ruins. Very sad !. In Montlieu-la-Garde, there is a monument in memories of U.S. Soldiers who died for the freedom of our country "France" We, the French people, we cannot forget - Thank you ! God bless America and France. s/ A Frenchman - Mr Meriochaud James
